New iPhone Announced Today

The iPhone 5S and 5C were announced today as the next step in our Smartphone obsession. Yes that’s right they are releasing not one but two new models. Here is a quick rundown…

The iPhone 5C is being pitched as a more colorful and affordable option for customers. Its main features are the new plastic steel enforced case with a vibrant colour range and new lower price of US$99 (around $100 cheaper than the previous model) or AU$736. The new plastic shell offers a small relief to those of us with butter fingers, who live in constant fear of smashing their fragile glass encased Smartphone. The internals of the device are exactly the same as the previous generation iPhone 5 but with a new operating system iOS7. This model not meant to be a budget option but may prove to be more popular than its more expensive counterpart 5S, particularly with the younger crowd.

The iPhone 5S exterior is considerably less dramatic than the iPhone 5C featuring an aluminum shell that comes in gold, silver and a titanium grey. However there are a number of significant internal changes. The first of which is a new A7 chip that is produced by Apple. This new chip now has an all new 64-bit architecture – a first for any Smartphone. There is also another chip Apple are calling the ‘M7′. The M7 chip is made solely to handle all the motion sensors the device has. Essentially this means your phone will now be able to tell if you’re stationary, walking, running or driving. Another new feature is an enhanced camera that has a 15% larger sensor and an aperture of f/2.2. Other new elements include, auto image stabilization, slow motion video, continuous burst mode and yet even more filters for the instagram lovers.
The feature I’m most excited about? The unique fingerprint sensor that will allow you to use your own print as an added layer of security instead of a passcode. This makes it faster to unlock your phone and it also works with passwords, so you won’t have to keep entering your iTunes password to download new apps. It sounds a little James Bond- using your fingerprint to access top secret information. I can’t wait.
Both models will be available September 20th. View the introductory videos here…
